I am sure that the first time that I walked Greenleaf Yoga Studio Frank was probably taken aback. As you can see by the pictures I am a rather large individual. I also at the time walked with a limp from chronic pain in my low back. However, he stopped what he was doing and answered my questions. Frank suggested a combination class of Hatha and Restorative yoga.
This helped more than you can imagine. My flexibility rapidly increased as did my skill in maintaining the basic postures. We also set some goals to be able to achieve some postures, some as far out as 3014. Although there has been more improvements, my back pain is largely gone, and I have the ability to touch my hands behind my back (this hasn't occurred since high school, 30 plus years ago) my musculature prevent me from achieving many postures. But we are working on that. Although Yoga is not based on competition but on improvement and quality within one's self, my current peak of achievement is a wall headstand. Trust me it is an achievement for an almost 50 year old 300 plus pound man to stand on his head and sustain it for what seemed like an eternity (more like 30 seconds).
Frank offers both regular classes and restorative classes which concentrate on flexibility. This is a good balance for those who seek improvement in both strength endurance and flexibility and because of the closeness of the community there Frank and the other teachers are able to take a "Hands on" approach and make the classes individually significant. and safe. .
